Anti-Sweatshop Code of Conduct

Anti-Sweatshop Code of Conduct

So, here it is, the product of our threat to occupy Pelton's office in spring of 2000. The good news: WU has adopted a code, and it looks pretty good to me (read it for yourself via the link above).

The bad news: the enforcement mechanism is that the vendor has to read the code and say they'll comply (see the "Imprint Request Form" to the left). That's it. It doesn't mention anything about monitoring. So if a company lies, or if their rep thinks they meet the code we have no way to know, at least according to everything I've read.

I really think we need to look into organizing to have WU join the Workers' Rights Consortium (WRC).

In any case I'll update the Issues page and add this link. Drop me a line (or use the comments feature) if you have any thoughts on the matter. I'll also send an email to WRC.
